And remember also that the tie (cravat) comes from the Croats !

Tie, the universal symbol of refinement is considered to be an original Croatian product. It spread as a fashion throughout Europe in the 17th century via the Croatian soldiers. Among the first it was accepted by the French and in their language it was called cravate, and later in other European languages with similar names.

After the French, it was accepted by the Belgians and the Dutch from where it passed to the British Islands, which was crucial for the development of tie. Englishmen made a real fashion hit from the cravat. They have changed the mode of its tying and colour patterns. Namely, from the early 19th century. ties were white, and the English introduced colourful patterns. The American textile manufacturer Jesse Langsdorf made a revolutionary step because he cut the fabric into three pieces and then sewed it together again, which allowed an easy tying and industrial development.

Although there are theoretical possibilities of as much as 85 ways of lacing the tie knot, but only about ten of them correspond to the usual notions of symmetry. The best known way to tie it is a double "Windsor knot" which has been made famous by the Duke of Windsor. When it comes to forms, today the most commonly in use is the tie in the form of an elongated half-bottle, then the band or  bow tie and the so-called ‘’Ascot’’ - tie.
